Solution ID: 7251

Step 1

Plug the Smart Plug into the wall socket within 2 meters (line of sight) of the Genius Hub (and turn the socket on).

The red light will flash once every second.

Prepare the device to be added to the Hub by pressing and holding the button on the Smart Plug for 5 seconds.

Step 2

The Hub needs to prepare to add the device.

The Doctor will search for the new device

Step 3

Ready to add the new Smart Plug.
Press the button and hold it down for approximately 5 seconds, at which point the light under the button will change.
The box below will change to say 'Device Found' when the Smart Plug starts adding, before displaying the device ID.

If the box does not update in 30 seconds, again press the button and hold it down for approximately 5 seconds.

The Doctor will test for communication with the device

Step 4

The device needs to be detected by the hub one more time

The Doctor will search for the new device

Step 5

Press the clear red button 3 times in within 1.5 seconds.

The flashing red light stops flashing when the device has included successfully.

On success, the Smart Plug has been assigned a number, write this number on the side of the device.

If you have excluded or factory reset the device previously, it will re-add with a new, different number. If it has the same number as before the reset, the device was not successfully excluded/factory reset.

The Doctor will communicate with the device

Step 6

Now you need to finish the steps here and then add the Smart Plug to a corresponding zone on the app if you want to control when it turns on, so you can control other things such as lights.

If the Smart Plug is plugged in and powered on at the wall, then it will always boost the signal.

The light on the front indicates the status of the switch inside the Smart Plug. If the light on the front is on then whatever you plug into the Smart Plug will turn on, if the light is off then what you plug into the Smart Plug will turn off, the light does not affect the boosting of the signal.

The Doctor will ask you to select a zone

Step 7

The Doctor will create the new zone

Step 8

The Doctor will now assign the device to a zone

Step 9

Locate the Smart Plug as necessary.

See the following article for further advice: Positioning the Genius Hub Smart Plugs or Range Extenders

Step 10

First locate the Smart Plug which has been re-added Genius Hub. You need to use the original ID number of the device (will be on a sticker such as 3, or 12 if added by Genius Hub), and not the one which it currently has.

The Doctor will ask you to select the relevant device

Step 11

First the Genius Hub needs to attempt to communicate with the Genius Smart Plug once more. This is to ensure that the device is a 'dead node' and so is eligible to be removed from the system in this way.

The Doctor will communicate with the device

Wake up the device by short pressing the top button three times.

Note : This will turn off any devices which are plugged into the Smart Plug.

Step 12

Now the device is confirmed as no longer on the system, it can be removed.

The Doctor will attempt to remove the device

Step 13

This device has now been added to your system.
