Step 1

If the Genius Radiator Valve is showing a low target temperature but the radiator is still hot, this means that the Genius Radiator Valve cannot control the water flowing through the radiator, this may be because of the following reasons:

  • The valve body (the metal part that the water flows through) may be corroded inside, which means that the Genius Radiator Valve cannot push the valve shut. This means that the Genius Radiator Valve needs to be removed from the valve body, and with a pair of pliers or end of a large spanner, the pin on the valve needs to be worked free. Be careful doing this as if the valve is in poor condition this may cause the valve to leak. If it is not possible to free up the valve body, then it will need to be replaced.
  • The Genius Radiator Valve may be cross threaded onto the valve body. This means that the Genius Radiator Valve cannot push down on the valve effectively. To rectify this the Genius Radiator Valve needs to be removed from the valve body and remounted. This is more common with M30 type valve bodies.
  • If the valve bodies are Danfoss RA-FS type, sometimes the grub-screw that is tightened up with an Allen key is not tightened up enough, and the white adapter ring rises up the valve; you will see a small gap under the adapter ring. This means that the Genius Radiator Valve cannot control the pin properly in the valve body. To rectify this the Genius Radiator Valve needs to be removed from the valve body and remounted so that the white adapter ring is tight up against the valve.

Step 2

Once the problem has been fixed, this can be confirmed by overriding on another room to ensure hot water is flowing through the system. If this radiator remains cold throughout the test, the Genius Radiator Valve now has control of the radiator once more.

Select a radiator zone (on the same heating circuit if you have multiple plumbing circuits), and override it to 28°C.

  • The selected room should heat up as the hot water flows through the plumbing and the Genius Radiator Valve opens to allow the room to heat up
  • The radiator with the newly remounted Genius Radiator Valve should stay cold as the Genius Radiator Valve stops the flow of hot water entering the radiator.

If the radiator continues to heat up incorrectly then it is likely that the valve body is not longer working and a plumber may need to be called to rectify this issue.

The Genius Radiator Valves go through a learning period in the first couple weeks after installation/if they have been removed and re-added to the radiator. This is where they calibrate to the TRV body to learn how far the pin moves. It opens a little every minute until it senses a change in temperature of the pin, and it stores this position for next time. This process can take up to 45 minutes, so it can take up to 45 minutes for room to begin to warm up during the couple weeks. For more information, see: Valve slow to respond
